Registration Process
Step 1. Check Your Prerequisites
To attend an NYLT course, a youth shall have the following qualifications by the beginning of the course:
- Must be a registered member of a Scouting unit
- Must have a current BSA Health and Medical Record form parts A, B, and C
- Scouts (male and female) must be 14 years of age (13 with Course Director’s interview) and fall within the maximum age allowance for their program registration. They must be ranked a First Class Scout or higher and have completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops.
- Venturers and Sea Scouts (male and female) must be at least 14, or 13 and have completed eighth grade, and fall within the maximum age allowance for their program. They must have completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews or Ships. It is recommended that they have had at least one year of camping experience. While NYLT
- is not an outdoor skills course, it is important that each participant have basic camping and outdoor cooking experience.
- A unit leader recommendation.
- Participants who are 18 or older must take Youth Protection Training (Y01) and provide a certificate of completion.
Step 2. Register online and fill out forms
- Download the forms from the registration link and fill them out.

Step 3. Submit
- Registration Materials and Forms are all available on the Registration Site, under “When and Where”
- Submit your registration packet by postal mail to

- Must include all of the following
- Participant Application Signed and Completed
- Incomplete forms will be returned and will not hold a place in line.
- Code of Conduct
- A current passport-size or school photo
- Completed National Medical Forms A and B now
- Part C must be completed and received by Downhill Meeting
- Copy of health insurance card – both sides
- Additional medication permission form
- Required for prescription medication
- YPT Certificate (if 18 years old or over). Training is available on https://my.scouting.org. For more information on Youth Protection Training (YPT), please visit HERE
- Participant Application Signed and Completed
If participant is absent, without prior approval from Course Director, from the mandatory Downhill Meeting; their application will be withdrawn, and no refund will be issued. Applicants whose medical form C is not submitted by downhill, will be endangered of losing their spot and placed on the waitlist.
Notes:
* 13-year-olds will be interviewed to help ensure they are ready for the rigors of the course. We want them to have a good experience and many times 13-year-olds are just not quite ready for the concepts or the autonomy that is given during a course.
